About

CTing Pictures is me, Clarence Ting.  I’m a documentary filmmaker, videographer, producer, photographer, storyteller and creative tinkerer.

It’s simple. I love a good story. Short, long, serious, or light, a good story has the power to not only entertain, but open up new ways of seeing the world. I take pride in telling the good story whether it’s producing, shooting, editing or directing. I’m always interested in finding those kernels of truth, those moments that connect the subject and the audience. I specialize in documentary story telling and as such I’ve worked as a one man band (producing and shooting), overseen a crew as a director in the field and worked as a member of a larger production unit and I’ve enjoyed all of it. I’ve shot on and contributed to independent documentary projects shooting on location in Cambodia, Bhutan, Mexico, Romania, the Netherlands and various parts of the US.  I’ve worked on and produced a variety of television shows for PBS, cable and the major networks. My television work includes producing and  directing several episodes of A&E’s documentary series The First 48 and After the First 48 as well as shooting and field producing on several shows including, Boston Med (ABC), The First 48, After the First 48 and Flip this House (A&E) and Tabloid Wars (Bravo).  I’ve also produced shorter content for the web and made mini documentaries for small business and nonprofits. What I’ve brought to all these projects is a focus on telling a great story.

A native of the Bay Area in California, I received my BA in Anthropology at UC Berkeley and my Masters degree at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. After several years living in Brooklyn, New York, I moved back to the West Coast and now reside in Oakland, California.  In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family eating, cooking and thinking about food, all of which I write, photograph and create original videos for my blog, delicioustings.
